Breaking News: Awood Center’s Executive Director Abdi Muse Appointed as Senior Advisor to U.S. Department of Labor

We are thrilled to announce that Awood Center’s Executive Director, Abdi Muse, has been appointed by President Biden as a Senior Advisor to the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. This incredible opportunity will allow Abdi to continue his work advocating for the rights of working families on a national level.

In his statement, Abdi shared, “It is with much excitement that I announce today that I have accepted a new position as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington D.C., where I will continue standing up for working families. It has been the honor of my life to build the Awood Center alongside the amazing group of workers, staff, and allies who have helped us win huge gains at the worksite, at the Capitol, and in our communities.”

Under Abdi’s leadership, the Awood Center has achieved significant milestones, including advocating for the strongest warehouse worker safety bill in the country. Through strikes, rallies, and persistent advocacy, Awood Center has transformed conditions for Amazon workers and East African communities in Minnesota.

Abdi’s departure marks the end of an era, but he leaves the organization stronger than ever. His commitment to improving the lives of workers will continue to inspire our mission, and the Awood Center remains in incredibly capable hands to lead the fight for workers’ rights.
